At BCS, we believe that the wearing of a uniform is a fitting extension of our mission to join with the family.  A uniform helps create a learning environment with fewer distractions and greater equality while fostering a sense of belonging among students.  The uniform also allows the community at large to recognize our students as a group of young people who share common educational and spiritual goals.  It is our desire that the BCS uniform should contribute to a sense of pride in the school.

All BCS students on campus must be in BCS uniform, purchased through our supplier

For uniform guidelines and additional information please see:

Emergency Broadcasts

On the rare occasion that we need to get a hold of a parent in an emergency (ex. School Closures), we will use our Emergency Alert Tool, powered by our PowerSchool Database.  When you setup your account with PowerSchool you can determine how you would like to be communicated with (ex. email, phone, text).  In an emergency we override your preferences and will communicate with you using all availalbe channels (email, text and phone).  You are always welcome to phone our Front Office Team who will be available to answer any questions you may have.

There are many opportunities to contribute here at BCS and we would love to connect with you in the areas that you are most passionate about.  Your time is priceless to our staff and students and many jobs just couldn’t happen without your help.

If you are a parent of a junior or senior kindergarten student please note that the program runs on a rotational volunteer basis and we strongly encourage each family to be added to the volunteer schedule at the beginning of the year.  If you are new to Calgary/Canada and are unable to volunteer in the classroom there are other ways you can volunteer your time through craft prep at home.

Safety and Security

As part of our effort to ensure the safety of all our staff and students at BCS it is mandatory that all our volunteers have security clearance.

Your security clearance is valid for five years.  Please note prospective volunteers must reside in Canada for a full year before registering.  Police Checks obtained from other organizations that meet the criteria are acceptable as long as originals are shown at the school office.

To be a Volunteer at BCS please:

  1. Send an e-mail to info@bearspawschool.com  to request an application and volunteer handbook. Once filled out and signed please return it to the school office.
  2. Pick up an Intervention Record Check form and a Volunteer Police Check Letter at the school office.
  3. Complete and return the Intervention Record Check to the school office.  Our staff will mail your Intervention Record check to the Alberta Government for processing.
  4. Complete a Police Check online at https://policeinformationcheck.calgarypolice.ca.  Please indicate that you’d like the electronic response sent to BCS.  If you live outside of the city of Calgary, or are unable to complete the electronic process please visit your local police station to complete your Police check.  Show your Volunteer Police Check Letter for a discounted rate.
  5. Once you receive your Intervention Record/Police Check in the mail please bring it into our school office.
