What Do We Teach?
All teaching follows the Alberta Curriculum as set out by Alberta Education. Being a Private Independent Christian School allows us the freedom to adapt the curriculum to incorporate a Biblical Perspective - or what we call discipleship-based education.
Students cover all subjects as outlined by Alberta Education with French being taught to students in Grades 4-6.
Elementary Bible Memory Program
BCS Elementary believes in the importance of establishing a firm foundation of faith based on biblical literacy. The emphasis of our Bible Memory Program is not only to integrate verses into the Bible themes we teach, but to challenge students to apply these verses in their daily lives. Our desire is that as elementary students memorize verses, they will internalize God’s Word in their hearts. Each grade has specific criteria for students to meet in order for them to receive a Bible Memory Award at the end of the school year. The criterion is well set out at every grade level and has been established to help students achieve success. As well as memorizing verses throughout the year, students must recite 10 verses at the end of May that they have previously memorized from the past year, in order to receive their Bible Memory Award.
Elementary Biblical Worldview
All BCS Elementary Students have Bible class two – three times per week. Additionally, every day begins with a time of devotions and prayer which is a powerful way to share and grow in our faith together in community. We also corporately worship through our weekly Elementary Chapels, each class is given the opportunity to lead chapel at least once a year.
BCS' Classroom Teachers are working with our Dean of Discipleship to intentionally incorporate Biblical Worldview into their daily teaching. This is done with the purpose of helping students adopt a personal and authentic faith that is their own. Activities and teaching help shape our students while developing Christ-like character.
Bearspaw Christian School is strongly involved in missions and we are working on a new initiative to strengthen this at the elementary level as well. Each grade-level can look forward to specific missions project, from supporting nursing homes to adopting a classroom in Guatemala.
At Home Reading Program
Every class at BCS Elementary participates in a Home Reading program that runs from October to May. The program is designed to encourage students develop a life-long love of reading. We reward students with an Ice Cream Sundae Party in June, each time a student reads they earn part of their ice cream sundae celebration!
- MUSIC - BCS Elementary offers a robust music program as part of the regular curriculum. This includes a band option for Grades 5-6 Students as an extra-curricular option.
- SPORTS - Intramurals are offered to Elementary Students once a week at lunch.
