  • Gr. 4-6 Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11:40-12:00

WHERE: Mross Gymnasium (Elementary Gym)

WHY: For team spirit, character building, athletic skill developments and for FUN!

Explanation of Elementary Intramurals

BCS will be offering an Elementary Intramural Program to elementary students as an alternative lunch recess activity.  These activities will vary by month and compliment the current sports taught during PE class.  Intramurals will be comprised of free time, recreational games, and competitive tournaments.

FREE TIME: Select equipment will be available in the gym.  Students are self-directed in their play under teacher supervision.

RECREATIONAL GAMES:(this is anything not labeled as a tournament, such as dodge ball.) Teachers will organize games and make teams of those students who attend for the day.  Half of the gym will be a more competitive game, and the other half will be skills and recreational.  For example, Gr 1-3 Basketball: those students wanting to play an actual game will go to one half of the gym and those just wanting to shoot hoops or play pass will stay on the other side of the gym.  Teachers will supervise both game and skills.  Proper skills/rules are emphasized but no scores are recorded.

COMPETITIVE TOURNAMENTS: Students must sign-up for these in advance and become committed to their team for the entire tournament.  Team captains, team names and even team cheers are made for the tournament.  Tournament rules are strictly enforced by the Teacher Referees and games follow a Round Robin format, ending in Play-Offs and a Championship Game!  All scores are recorded.  Ribbons & medals will be presented.  Grade 5 and 6 students are encouraged to become coaches for those in Gr. 1-3 tournaments.

Expectations for Elementary Intramurals

Students wanting to participate in Free Time and Recreational Intramurals must be in the gym by within 5 minutes of recess time,, at which time the gym doors will be closed.  Unless getting a drink of water or using the bathrooms, students in intramurals must stay in the gymnasium for the remainder of the time.  There are no spectators permitted during these Intramurals, as this is an actively involved program.

Students participating in the Competitive Intramural Tournaments must be in the gym on their assigned game days only and ready to begin playing by 11:25/11:45am.  Teams must have a minimum number of players in order to begin.  A full commitment is expected from those in the competitive intramurals, unless a similar and permanent sub can be found.  All teams are co-ed.  Spectators, including parents, will be permitted during play-offs and the championship game.  Those winning the championship will have the opportunity to verse the teachers in a fun game of that sport!

Objective for Elementary Intramurals

The main goal for  Elementary Intramurals is that students from all grade levels will feel team spirit through the games & activities provided while building their athletic skills level.  Students will have the opportunity to reflect Christ-like Character as they learn how to be humble winners and gracious losers.
